How to use your Twilio number on iPhone
Use a voice-capable Twilio number from your iPhone with Secure Dialer. Here is what you need, how to connect it, and what changes for your business calls.
Can you use a Twilio number on an iPhone?
Yes. Secure Dialer connects your own Twilio account to an iPhone app so you can place and receive calls through your business number. You use Wi-Fi or mobile data; you do not install the number as a SIM or move it to your cellular carrier.
This is a useful fit if you already run business communications through Twilio and want a phone interface for individual calls. You keep paying Twilio for the number and usage, and pay separately for the Secure Dialer app.
1. Check your account and number
Have an upgraded, funded Twilio account and a voice-capable number in that account. You also need an iPhone with internet access and an Apple Account. Check the App Store listing for current device requirements.
If the number already powers a business workflow, review its incoming-call configuration before changing it. Connecting a calling app can affect where incoming calls go; plan the change so customers still reach you.
2. Install Secure Dialer and connect Twilio
Download Secure Dialer from the App Store. Review the subscription terms shown by Apple, then follow the account setup prompts. Enter the Account SID and Auth Token for the Twilio account that owns your number and tap Connect Twilio.
Enter credentials only in the app connection screen. The supported setup sends the master Auth Token directly from your iPhone to Twilio to create a dedicated, revocable key. Never send your Auth Token to support or paste it into a website contact form.
3. Select the number you want to use
Choose your voice-capable Twilio number in the line setup flow. If it does not appear, confirm you connected the correct account and that the number supports voice. Configure the number in Twilio if necessary, then return to the app.
A verified external caller ID is different from a Twilio-owned number. It can identify outbound calls where supported; verification alone does not move incoming calls or text messages from your existing carrier into Secure Dialer.
4. Check outgoing and incoming calls separately
Open Phone, enter a number you control or have permission to call, review the destination and selected business line, and tap Call. Allow microphone access when prompted. Confirm that both people can hear and check which number the recipient sees.
Then call your Twilio number from another phone to check incoming routing. A successful outgoing call does not prove incoming calls are configured. If the app does not ring, check incoming routing, connectivity, and Do Not Disturb before relying on the line for customers.
What does it cost?
Secure Dialer is $9.99 monthly or $79.99 annually at the U.S. pricing shown on this site. Apple shows the applicable price and any eligible trial before purchase. Twilio number rental, calls, messages, registrations, and carrier fees are separate.
A standard U.S. local number is currently $1.15 per month. Ordinary outbound calls to the contiguous U.S. typically combine a $0.014 telephone leg and a $0.004 app leg per minute. At 100 outbound billable minutes, that is about $12.94 for a month with the monthly app plan, before taxes and other charges. Rates vary by destination and features; check the linked Twilio pricing before budgeting.
Can this replace my mobile plan?
Secure Dialer requires Wi-Fi or mobile data and is not a replacement for telephone or emergency service. Keep an independent way to reach emergency services. Texting also has its own number capabilities and registration requirements; a working voice call does not establish that messaging is ready.
