How to connect Twilio to Secure Dialer: setup walkthrough
Follow this checklist to connect the right Twilio account, choose your number, protect your recovery access, and complete your first call on iPhone.
What to have ready
- An iPhone with a passcode, internet access, and a supported iOS version.
- An Apple Account for the app and its subscription.
- An upgraded, funded Twilio account you are authorized to manage.
- A voice-capable Twilio number in that account, plus the matching Account SID and Auth Token.
- A second phone or an expected test recipient to check the first call.
1. Check the Twilio account you are connecting
Sign in to the official Twilio Console and select the account that owns the number you want to use. Confirm the number supports voice, the account has funds, and voice geographic permissions allow your intended destinations.
If you manage multiple accounts or subaccounts, use the SID and token for the account that holds the number. A valid connection to a different account will not make the missing number appear. Review any existing incoming-call workflow before replacing its routing.
2. Open the app and review the plan
Install Secure Dialer from the App Store and follow the Apple Account and subscription prompts. The U.S. app price on this site is $9.99 monthly or $79.99 annually; Apple displays your applicable price and trial eligibility before purchase.
The app subscription does not include a Twilio phone number or a calling allowance. Twilio bills its own number, usage, registration, and carrier fees separately.
3. Enter the Account SID and Auth Token
In the app’s Twilio connection screen, enter the Account SID and Auth Token from the selected account, then tap Connect Twilio. Keep both values out of screenshots and support messages.
During supported setup, the master Auth Token goes directly from the iPhone to Twilio to create a dedicated key. Secure Dialer clears the token from the form rather than saving it. The dedicated key supports the app connection and can be revoked independently.
4. Choose your voice-capable number
Select the Twilio number you want to use as your business line. If the list is empty, recheck the account, number ownership, and voice capability in Twilio. Add or configure an appropriate number if needed, then return and reconnect.
Verifying a number held by another carrier is not the same as moving that number to Twilio. Where external caller ID is supported, it identifies outbound calls only; incoming calls and texts remain with the carrier.
5. Save your recovery access
Open Settings, then Account & recovery. Follow the prompts to link your Apple Account and save the recovery code in a private place outside this iPhone. Review enrolled devices and revoke any that you no longer control.
Keep recovery information confidential. Support does not need your Auth Token, API-key secret, Apple transaction payload, or recovery code to investigate a routine problem.
6. Complete a short test call
Open Phone, choose an expected test recipient, confirm the outgoing line and destination, and tap Call. Allow microphone access and check audio in both directions. The test uses billable Twilio service.
If you also need incoming calls, call your Twilio number from another phone and confirm the app rings. Check voicemail separately before using it as your missed-call destination. Keep another reliable way to contact emergency services.
If setup stops before you can call
- Connection rejected: recheck the Account SID and Auth Token in the selected Twilio account; avoid leading or trailing spaces.
- No eligible number: confirm you are in the correct account and the number supports voice.
- Purchase missing: open Settings, then Plan, and use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
- Calls fail after connection: check funding, internet access, microphone permission, and geographic permissions.
- Need help: open Help & diagnostics and create a privacy-safe support summary. Use the website support form without attaching credentials.
Changing or canceling later
Manage the app subscription through Apple. If you intend to remove the app’s Twilio connection, use Settings, then Twilio connection, and follow secure disconnect. Review its confirmation before proceeding.
Deleting the app does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription, release a rented Twilio number, or remove every Twilio-side record. Manage those separately in the appropriate account.
