How to make calls from your Twilio business number

Make an individual business call from your iPhone using Secure Dialer, check your outgoing number, and troubleshoot the most common calling problems.

Before your first business call

Connect your funded Twilio account and select a voice-capable Twilio number in Secure Dialer. Make sure your iPhone has Wi-Fi or mobile data and that you are permitted to call the destination. If setup is incomplete, use the connection walkthrough linked below first.

For example, a consultant can return a client call from the office number while away from a laptop. The client sees the selected outgoing number, subject to carrier handling; the conversation runs through the app and Twilio.

1. Choose your contact or enter the number

Open the Phone tab. Choose a contact or enter the destination with its country code, such as +1 for a U.S. number. Review the full number before continuing, especially when a contact has multiple phone numbers.

2. Confirm the outgoing business line

Check the business line displayed on the dialing screen. If your account has multiple eligible lines, choose the one you want to present for this call. Verify both the destination and the outgoing line before tapping Call.

Caller ID sends a number; it does not guarantee a particular business name, branded display, or removal of spam labels. Those depend on registration, number reputation, and the recipient’s carrier and device.

3. Tap Call and check the audio

Tap Call to initiate the call yourself. Allow microphone access if iOS asks. For a first test, use a recipient who expects the call and ask whether they can hear you clearly.

Use Mute to stop or resume your microphone, Audio to choose the phone, speaker, or available Bluetooth device, and Keypad for extensions or automated menus. End the call in the app when finished.

4. Confirm the result before using it with customers

Ask the test recipient which number appeared. After ending the call, check your recent activity. If audio quality or completion was poor, open Settings, then Help & diagnostics, and use Troubleshoot recent calls.

Test incoming calls separately if customers need to call you back on that number. Outbound caller-ID verification for an external carrier number does not route its incoming calls into the app.

If the call fails or nobody can hear you

  • Call fails immediately: check Twilio funding, the destination country code, voice geographic permissions, and the eligibility of the selected line.
  • No microphone audio: check Secure Dialer microphone permission in iPhone Settings and make sure the call is not muted.
  • Audio is on the wrong device: use Audio to select the intended output and check connected Bluetooth accessories.
  • Incoming call does not reach the app: review your Twilio number routing and Do Not Disturb settings.
  • Still stuck: create a privacy-safe support summary from Help & diagnostics and use the support link. Do not send credentials or private call content.

How much does one call cost?

Twilio bills calls separately from the app subscription. Using standard contiguous-U.S. outbound rates, ten billable minutes through the app cost about $0.18: $0.14 for the telephone leg plus $0.04 for the app leg. Phone-number rental, taxes, and any additional features are extra. Actual billing can reflect per-leg rounding.

International destinations, forwarding, and conference participants can change the total. Review Twilio’s current rates for the route you intend to use. Secure Dialer is for reviewed, individually initiated calls and is not an emergency-calling service.
